For the Tacos

Equipment

  • Medium bowl
  • Gallon size Ziploc bag
  • Large Cast Iron Skillet

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, lime juice, 1 tablespoon of canola oil, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano.
  2. Place the steak pieces and the soy sauce mixture into a gallon size Ziploc bag or a large bowl. Marinate the steak for a minimum of 1 hour, up to 4 hours. Turn the bag occasionally to coat the meat.
  3. Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of canola oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat.
  4. Add the marinated steak and the marinade to the hot skillet. Cook, stirring often, until the steak browns and the marinade reduces, which takes about 5 to 6 minutes, or until you reach your desired doneness.
  5. Serve the cooked steak inside the warmed tortillas. Top each taco with diced red onion, chopped cilantro, and a lime wedge on the side.

Notes

This recipe comes from my Mexican-American household where street tacos were a staple at family gatherings. Making these easy tacos lets me share that tradition with my own children, even on busy nights.
